The Great Rift Valley Lakes: A Journey Through Flamingo Pink & Volcanic Wonder

The Great Rift Valley is the cradle of humankind, and its string of soda lakes are some of Kenya’s most spectacular natural wonders. This is a journey through a landscape shaped by volcanic fire, now home to some of the most prolific birdlife on the planet, including vast flocks of brilliant pink flamingos.

Lake Nakuru is famously known as a flamingo paradise, though the water levels and bird populations shift. Lake Bogoria offers a more geothermal experience, with spouting hot springs and geysers alongside its flamingo crowds. Further north, Lake Elementaita provides a quieter, more serene bird-watching experience and is part of the Kenya Lake System UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A safari through these lakes is a photographer’s dream and a nature lover’s paradise, offering a completely different ecosystem from the classic savanna.

Love birdwatching? Our coastal tours also feature incredible opportunities at the Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park.
